• 40th Intl Emmy Award winners announced

    MUMBAI: The International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences have announced the winners of the 40th International Emmy Awards at a Gala event held at the New York Hilton, hosted by Regis Philbin.

    Winners span six countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, France, Germany and the UK. For the first time, both performance categories were won by an Actor and Actress from the same series, Television x La Inclusion (Argentina).

    Jessica Lange presented the International Emmy Founders Award to Ryan Murphy, the creator, writer and director of television shows ?Glee?, ?American Horror Story? and ?Nip/Tuck?. After receiving his award, Murphy in turn, presented the two special 40th anniversary Founders Awards to global television legends Alan Alda ?M*A*S*H *? and Norman Lear ?All in The Family?.

    The International Emmy Directorate Award was presented to KBS president, CEO Dr. Kim In-Kyu who is also Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union president. The nine International Emmy Award Winning programs and performances are: Songs of War (Arts Programming), Dar?o Grandinetti (Best Performance by an Actor), Cristina Banegas (Best Performance by an Actress), The Invisible Woman (Comedy) , Terry Pratchett: Choosing to Die (Documentary), Braquo season 2 (Drama Series), The Amazing Race Australia (Non-Scripted Entertainment), The Illusionist (Telenovela), and Black Mirror (TV Movie/Mini-Series).

    Academy president Bruce L. Paisner said, "The International Academy is proud to be shining the spotlight on the world?s best television programming and performances, for the last 40 years, and we congratulate tonight?s winners for their outstanding achievements as they enter into Emmy history".

    MUMBAI: Nominations for the first International Emmy Kids Awards were announced by the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (Iatas) at a press conference at the television trade event Mipcom in Cannes, France. There are 24 nominees in 6 categories.

    Winners will receive their Emmys at the inaugural International Emmy Kids Awards, on 8 February, 2013 in New York City.

    Nominations span 13 countries including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada and France. The 2012 International Emmy competitions have three rounds of judging over a period of 6 months, with participation from jurors across 67 countries.

    Iatas president, CEO Bruce L. Paisner said, "One of the great success stories of international television in the last few years has been the explosion of high quality children‘s programming around the globe. In recognition of this, the International Academy is pleased to have created these new awards and we look forward to the first International Emmy Kids Awards ceremony, in February 2013."

    MUMBAI: Factual entertainment channel History TV18 is launching a new show titled ?Around the World in 80 Ways?.

    Starting 18 September, the show will air every Tuesday at 9 pm.

    In the show Rob Boston and Dennis Anderson will take a challenging voyage to go around the globe by uncovering 80 unique modes of transportation, without repeating any vehicle.

    The 10 part series explores new countries across the globe. The hosts navigate through Brazil, Peru, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Tanzania, Dubai, India, Thailand, and the United States.

    The show is produced by Original Productions, a Fremantle Media Company. Thom Beers and Philip D. Segal are executive producers and Jeff Conroy is co-executive producer for Original Productions. Julian P. Hobbs is executive producer for History.

    Boston and Anderson?s expedition will also bring them to India. In Mumbai, the two hosts are greeted with "swarming" and "busy" lanes. They score some Tuk Tuks and race their way out on the busy streets. Elephants, ox-carts and other new forms of transportation will eventually take them to their destination - the beautiful Lake Pichola, the statement read.

  • Current Affairs, News nominees announced for Intl Emmy Awards

    MUMBAI: The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has announced the nominees for the 2012 Current Affairs and News categories.

    The Academy will present the nominees with their medals and certificates, at a breakfast event on October 1, in New York City, featuring guest speaker David Westin, who was ABC News president of and author of ‘Exit Interview‘. Winners will be announced that night at a Ceremony at the Frederick P. Rose Hall of Jazz at Lincoln Center.

    The international winners will be honored alongside their American news and documentary counterparts. The eight nominees span seven countries: Brazil (two), Canada, China, Germany, Japan, Qatar and Russia.

    IATAS president & CEO Bruce L. Paisner said, "The 2012 nominees present a powerful showcase of the human, political and socio-economic drama unfolding daily around the world. The Academy congratulates the men and women behind these programs for their outstanding journalism."
