Pix to launch film review show 'Chicks On Flicks' next week

MUMBAI: English move channel Pix from the Sony stable will launch the film review show Chicks On Flicks on 7 November at 7:30 pm. The show, which will air every Friday, will see Ira Dubey and Neha Sarin offering their take on the latest Hollywood movies to hit cinema halls in India.

Speaking on the show Pix business head Sunder Aaron says that the show has been in the works for over a year. "We spent a lot of time looking for the right personalities and combination. We first looked at film journalists and then we broadened our search. We then found these two personalities who will articulate their views on a film."

He adds that the first episode will be unique in that the two travel to Los Angeles to meet actor Daniel Craig and chat with him on the new Bond film Quantum Of Solace.

The aim of the show is to be the one stop source for English film buffs who want to know whether the films being released are worth their buck or not.

"Right now the film review shows on television give Hollywood short shrift. Besides, our show looks at Hollywood films in-depth and will also be unambiguous. The verdict at the end of the day will be either see it or skip ir. What makes it fun though is that the two hosts do not necessarily agree with each other."

Aaron adds that the show is not meant to be a promotional advertising vehicle for films. " The views offered will be frank and unbiased. The show will see the hosts articulating their views of the film which is different and better from somebody simply voicing a generic opinion. A generic opinion tells the viewers nothing. It could however take a few months before people in the industry understand what we are trying to achieve. Distributors though have been supportive of what we are doing."

When one talks of film review shows the Gold standard is Ebert and Roeper which recently came to an end in the US. The show started way back in the 1970s with two film critics Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel who in fact coined the thumbs up and thumbs down rating. The level of passion of the critics involved is what made the show be a household name for so long. Aaron says that aim is for Chicks on Flicks to achieve the same level of credibility and be influential over time.
