Now live cricket telecast on Disney channels

MUMBAI: For the first time ever, international cricket will be shown live on a children‘s channel as Disney decides to hook on to India‘s most popular sports to expand its mass appeal among younger audiences.


ESPN Star Sports has inked a deal with Disney XD and Disney Channel to live simulcast select India matches from the Champions League T20.


Says Walt Disney Television India VP, GM Natasha Malhotra, "We are really excited to partner with ESS on the telecast of the Airtel Champions League T20 on Disney XD and Disney Channel. This will be an unprecedented sports programming event in the kid‘s genre and a special treat for our young cricket fans to be enjoyed with their families."


The channels will air three matches from the Champions League T20 featuring the three Indian teams.


Disney Channel and Disney XD will air on 10 September the Mumbai Indians versus Highveld Lions match from 9 pm. The action continues with Chennai Super Kings versus the Central Stags on 11 September and Royal Challengers Bangalore versus Guyana Cricket Board on 12 September at the same time.


Disney Channel‘s host Murtuza will be interviewing cricketers and the audience adding value to the coverage. He will also be seen bringing alive all the on-ground excitement with the ESS‘ commentators and hosts of Champions League T20.


Says ESS VP - strategy, business development and cricket rights Anurag Dahiya, "We are delighted to share the live telecast of three matches from the Airtel Champions League Twenty20 with the Disney network in India . All the young fans of the Disney network will have an opportunity to see champion T20 teams from top cricketing nations battle it out for the title of - Champion of Champions."


In addition, Disney XD in association with ESS had also run a contest which they claim got over 63,000 entries. The winners of the CL T20 contest on Disney XD - the lucky trio Nihar Reddy, Muskan Shah and Kieser Fernandes - will fly to South Africa to witness the toss on those three days and meet MS Dhoni, Anil Kumble and Sachin Tendulkar - captains of the Indian teams participating in the event.
