DirecTV and Hearst reach agreement

MUMBAI: DirecTV and Hearst Corp have reached a deal over the fees that DirecTV pays the broadcasting company to carry stations on its lineup.

Though the terms of the deal haven‘t been disclosed, but the original deal was due to expire this midnight.

DirecTV satellite subscribers including those in Boston, Pittsburgh, Baltimore and other markets could have lost Hearst-owned stations on DirecTV if the deal wouldn‘t have gone through.

Hearst owns 29 local TV stations, which include associates of all the major networks except Fox.

This year many negotiations have been going down the wire over fees disputes as tried to tap a second source of revenue outside of selling commercial time. As a result many cable and satellite subscribers went without channels for days, even weeks.
The original deal between Sinclair Broadcast Group and Time Warner Cable is also due to expire tonight and no agreement has been reached at the time of filling this report.
