The Year 2000 was a landmark year for the
television industry in more ways than one. We at indiantelevision.com
thought that the principal players involved in making the
year what it was should be acknowledged. By people in the
industry, preferably, for who else was better qualified
to take a call on that.
The TV Executive of the Year 2000 poll was conceived with
that wish in mind. That the industry and those interested
in it could make their choice.
We began the poll on 15 December planning to close the polling
on 1 January assuming two weeks was a good time frame within
which to get in a good vote count.
However, the Christmas and New Year period saw a lot of
slack on the polling front and we we decided to extend the
process till the 10th to allow more votes in. The countdown
was introduced to increase awareness about the poll and
it showed spectacular results as far as the response graph
was concerned.
Too spectacular as subsequent data analysis proved. There
was a concerted attempt to hijack the polling and through
careful monitoring we were able to trace the "fixing" source.
Factoring that out of the final tally, it was News Television
India CEO Peter Mukerjea who was the winner by a long way.
We at indiantelevision.com congratulate him and we are sure
the industry echoes the sentiments.
