This week on BBC World's new business programme, Business Bites,
UTV head honcho Ronnie Screwvala invites bigwigs from the biotechnology
sector for lunch. The discussion to be telecast on 26 September
would be on the challenges impacting the sector.
This Sunday's edition focuses on Nicholas Piramal India Limited,
director, Swati Piramal, and Serum Institute of India, chairman,
Cyrus Poonawala. "The biotech industry in India is growing
rapidly", asserted Swati Piramal and Cyrus Poonawala.
The two market leaders felt that biotechnology has the potential
of becoming the next sunrise industry of India if only the government
regulatory bodies could make the decision making process simpler.
The duo would discuss the possibilities that biotechnology has
to offer for curing fatal illnesses like cancer. And simultaneously,
on the issue of shouldering the responsibility during the various
stages of testing, Poonawala held that primary responsibility lay
with the manufacturer and not the regulatory bodies.
Part of the channel's India Business Report strand, every
week, Business Bites has Screwvala inviting two big shots
from the same industry to lunch, to discuss the policies, issues
and challenges impacting their sectors.
In the past the series has featured guests such as like Nandan
Nilekani, A.K Purwar, S B Mathur, Ranjit Shahani, Peter Mukherjea
and Kunal Dasgupta, to name a few. The programme is produced for
BBC World by UTV.
