Zee News telecast the first ever live judgement in the history of Indian television on the twisted issue of who is the legal husband of Guriya as per the Islamic law?

The background: Guriya was married to Arif a soldier in the Indian Army for barely 10 days when Arif went missing in the Kargil operation. Guriya was married to Taufeeq four years later and is now pregnant with Taufeeq's baby. The dilemma of human emotions and the interpretation of what's right as per the Shariat and Hadis was relayed live on Zee News' Yeh Kaisa Bandhan - Kiski Hogi Guriya?

In a packed studio, Zee News head Alka Saxena moderated the proceedings in presence of the protagonists Gudiya, Gudiya's father and grandfather, Arif, Arif's elder brother, Taufiq and Taufiq's father along with a sizeable presence of relatives and villagers.

The proceedings took place as per Shariat law, in the presence of Leading Islamic Scholar Maulana Wahidudin and representatives from Deoband.

The discussions amongst the scholars and families of protagonists and the present crowd led to a solution as per the Islamic law, after Guriya stated on live television that she would like to be Arif's wife. Arif who had been reluctant till then to accept Guriya's unborn child, committed to accept the baby as his own and promised that he would not seek any financial help to raise the unborn child from anyone.

The solution to the problem was accepted by all present and was praised. The role of Zee News in the whole matter and live solution of the issue was praised by Maulana Wahidudin. He said that it was a positive step from Zee News and he felt for the first time the positive power of media.

Zee's director news group Laxmi Goel stated that Zee News is committed to social cause and will continue to play the positive role as nation's leading media organisation.
