Rumoured to be inspired by true life story of police officer Daya Nayak, Kagar- Living on the edge is a story of a village boy Bhaskar who comes to Mumbai looking for his missing brother. Helped by a kind cop Gokhale, he moves up from being a restaurant waiter to cop.

Zee will premier movie Kagaar in its Thursday Premiere slot on 25 March 25, 2004 at 8:00 pm. Directed by N Chandra, the movie stars Amitabh Dayal, Nandita Das and Om Puri.

While the protagonist Bhaskar, encouraged by his mentor becomes an encounter specialist, his childhood friend, Ali (Anup Soni), takes to a life of crime. He becomes instrumental in getting Bhaskar suspended from the force. Meanwhile Bhaskar keeps trying to wean Ali away from crime, says a company release.

Kagaar also touches very briefly on Bhaskar's personal life, his relationship with his wife (Nandita). Kagaar is the basic plot of an encounter cops out to nab his childhood friend. The movie that aimed to offer an insight into the stressful lives of the cops, did not do as well on the box-office though.
