| BBC World is all set to revive the epic history of
the Nehru-Gandhi family, India's first family, in a documentary
series called Dynasty: the Nehru-Gandhi Story.
To
be aired every Saturday starting 5 June at 2200 IST, the series
will narrate the saga of the family's role in shaping India through
several decades, says the official release.
Beginning with Motilal Nehru, the immensely wealthy father and the
founder of the dynasty, the documentary takes viewers through the
life of his son Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister,
who laid the foundation of free India for 17 years.
Over
the next eight weeks, the series follows Indira Gandhi's coaching
of her wayward son Sanjay to be her heir and ultimately Rajiv Gandhi
becoming the Prime Minister after her death and his subsequent assassination
in 1991.
The series draws upon expert knowledge from those who've played
a powerful part in India's political scene and even from key overseas
figures such as Lady Mountbatten, Margaret Thatcher, Nelson Mandela
and Mikhail Gorbachev.
It also offers the views of senior surviving family members, close
associates and friends of the dynasty.
To be narrated by Tim Piggot-Smith, the documentary is filmed in
India and Pakistan.
Other than covering the saga of family feuds, sufferings and imprisonment,
the series also recreates the magical bonds tying the family's many
generations together and the glittering power politics they played
out on the world stage.
