The Coalition Provisional Authority in Baghdad will hand over the sovereignty of Iraq to the new Iraqi interim government on 30 June. Bringing international viewers to witness this historic moment in Iraq’s history, news broadcaster CNN promises to provide extensive and live coverage from Baghdad.

Some of CNN’s most senior and experienced correspondents, including Christiane Amanpour, Brent Sadler and Jane Arraf, will report from Iraq during the build-up and also report on how Iraq and the US coalition has strived in the past 18 months to re-build the country’s infrastructure.

Additionally three one-hour long debates will form part of CNN’s coverage of the hand over of Iraq’s sovereignty. CNN takes the debate on the future of Iraq to the Middle East, Europe and North America. The three forums will broadcast on the eve of Iraq becoming a sovereign nation.

The aim is to create a global discussion for the full range of views and perspectives on this landmark event in post war Iraq. CNN has a history of recording open debates in US and this is the first time that CNN International has developed this into a global initiative on this scale.
