| Review committe chairman Pranab Mukherjee who is appointed
to look into the Congress debacle in the assembly elections will talk
to MJ Akbar on Star News' weekly show Akbar Ka Darbar on Sunday,
11 January at 8:30 pm.
In his interview, the senior Congress leader willingly introspects
on the failure of the Congress' strategy in combating the BJP.
In
several moments of truth, throughout the programme, Mukherjee accepts
the party's failure to shed its monolithic image and get into alliances
with other parties. This would have maximised the chances of winning
seats and the inability to match up to the savvy political managers,
of the BJP, who ran a carefully orchestrated campaign. Pranab concedes
that vote tha, hum nahi laa paye, voh hamara complacency tha
(There were votes, we could not get them, that was our complacency).
As the interview progresses, Mukherjee finds it hard to reject
the factors that Akbar candidly points out as the real reasons for
the Congress' debacle in the recent assembly elections.
In an interesting take, on the 'feel good factor', Mukherjee states,
"The feel good factor is a product of publicity and I am ready
to agree that we were far behind the BJP in publicity. So we need
to really gear up with a lot of publicity for the next elections."
Akbar Ka Darbar takes the viewers 'inside politics' and
aims at redefining the way the viewer 'understands' the impact of
political events. The programme takes the viewer beyond just reporting
on what has happened to understanding the 'why' behind political
developments.
