BBC World's latest series Back To The Floor tracks Infosys
CEO Nandan Nilekani, as he goes down the corporate ladder to work
as a program manager in his own company.
In this special seven-part series, the bosses return to shop level
to gain a real understanding of working life in their companies,
interacting with their employees and facing the same challenges
and problems as them. First series featured Reliance Industries
chairman and managing director Mukesh Ambani, who took on the role
of an ordinary shop floor worker for a day.
The episode where Nilekani begins his Back To The Floor experience
at the recruitment level and then takes on the challenges of a new
program manager in the $1 billion software firm will air on Sunday,
11 January 2004 at 11 am, says a company release.
Nilekani gets a first hand experience of tight client deadlines,
hectic project meetings, travel briefings, cross-cultural training
programmes, team building exercises, in short an insight into life
as it is for ordinary staff at Infosys. After three days on the
job excercise, he returns to the boardroom to examine some of the
problems he encountered, and seeks solutions to improve life for
his co-workers and employees.
While talking with one of his divisional heads and he also suggests
solutions that would help tackle some of the problems faced by the
employees of Infosys. "I've been going through a unique experience
for the last three days. I have had the opportunity to see things
as a new recruit and my experiences make me realize there is ample
room for improvement," he said.
Next week's executive is Apollo Hospitals founder and chairman
Dr Pratap Reddy, who takes on an assignment as intern doctor witnessing
many emergencies and complicated operations. His stint offered him
the opportunity to listen to the day-to-day problems of his employees
at various levels, adds the release.
