This weekend sees a range of special news and documentary programming
on BBC World. The weekly Middle East Business Report will
launch. The latest edition of Panorama will chronicle the
fight between the British government and the BBC. The broadcaster
wil also cover the World Debate from the World Economic Forum
in Switzerland.
The Middle East Business Report launches tomorow 24 January
at 11 am with a repeat at 11 pm and on 25 January at .4 pm. The
programe will consist of business and financial news from the Middle
East. Presented in Dubai by Nima Abu-Wardeh, each edition will analyse
the latest economic, market and company news and will interview
and profile the business leaders making the headlines.
On 25 January Panorama: A Fight To The Death will air at
1 pm and 10 pm. On 28 January Lord Hutton publishes his report into
the circumstances surrounding the apparent suicide of the scientist
Dr. David Kelly. His death triggered an inquiry that included an
examination of the row that had developed between the British government
and the BBC. This 90-minute programme offers an independent, factual
account of the whole affair, along with many of the events surrounding
it.
Another special The World Debate airs on 24 January at 1:40
pm and 5:40 pm. BBC anchor Nik Gowing chairs a debate from the World
Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, as part of BBC World's comprehensive
coverage of this high level annual meeting. High profile contributors
and Forum delegates will discuss the impact and likely consequences
of the war in Iraq to global politics and security.
The broadcaster's interactive discussion programme Talking Point
will feature Nato's new secretary general Jaap de Hoop Scheffer.
Formerly the Dutch Foreign Minister, he has staked the credibility
of the North Atlantic alliance on its peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan
and must now decide how to respond to Colin Powell's call for greater
support from Nato in Iraq. It airs on 25 January at 7:40 pm.
