Next on Star World's agenda is a Superman saga with a twist. Star English entertainment channel will be premiering Smallville on Thursday, 12 August at 8 pm. The series tells the story of a teenager named Clark Kent in Smallville, who grows up to be the super hero Superman.

It is a new interpretation of the enduring Superman mythology and its classic characters blend realism and adventure into an exciting action series, says a company release.

Though Clark, played by Tom Welling, will someday master his powers and understand his true calling, for now he has to get through adolescence. Between the boy he thought he was and the man he is destined to become are the stories of Smallville.

According to the release, the story starts with a flashback to 12 years ago when a meteor rained destruction on Smallville, Kansas. The intervening years have left the town's inhabitants with scars and secrets.

Clark Kent must come to grips with his emerging superpowers and the effects of Kryptonite while battling the strange things that have plagued this idyllic Midwest hamlet since the meteor shower.

The guardians of Clark's secret identity are his adoptive parents, Jonathan (John Schneider) and Martha (Annette O'Toole) Kent. Even his best friends, Pete Ross (Sam Jones) and Chloe Sullivan (Allison Mack), are in the dark about Clark's powers.

Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk) is the girl next door, who Clark worships from afar. Meanwhile, Clark also forges a remarkable new friendship with Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum), although neither has an inkling of how their destinies will ultimately collide. The ill-fated friendship often causes tension in the close-knit Kent family, as Jonathan fears Lex may take after his ruthless tycoon father.

With realistic portrayals and state-of-the-art special effects, Smallville reinterprets the Superman mythology from its roots, adds the release.
