This week CNN's talk show Talk Asia focuses the spotlight
on Hong Kong's actor-cum-singer Andy Lau. The show airs on 8 March
at 8 pm with repeats on 9 March at 6 am and 5 pm and 10 March at
9 am and 7 pm.
Lau started his career when he was 18 and has since starred in
more than 100 films. He established himself as a major force to
be reckoned with in both the movie and music industries in the 1990s
and was awarded Best Actor in the 2000 Hong Kong Film Awards
and Best Male Singer in numerous music awards both in Hong
Kong and abroad. Despite many successful leading roles, Lau tells
CNN that comedy has been the most challenging role in his acting
career. “I really appreciate what Chow Sing-Chi did within these
10 years. I would like to be an artist who can make people laugh,”
he says.
He also recalls a love scene with his dream girl Miu Hin-Yan in
Boat People when he was 20 years old. He tells show host
Lorraine Hahn that, “I felt very nervous about it while we were
on set. As she tried to kiss my hand, I really wanted to die when
I am acting with Miu Hin-Yan!”
Lau also reveals that he idolises Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon's
Chow Yun-Fat “The first time I met him, he just showed me his Rolex.
He says ‘Look at it’ then I look at it. Then he told me ‘Work hard,
and you are going to have it!”
