ETC Punjabi is celebrating Punjab's biggest annual festival Baisakhi
with Aayi Baisakhi. The show airs live on 6 April at 7:30
pm.
The musical extravaganza takes place in Jallandhar. An official
release informs that this is the first time any event is being telecast
live on the channel. An official release informs that ETC Punjabi
controls around 60 per cent of the Punjabi television market.
An audience of more than 15,000 people is expected to turn up for
the event. Viewers will be treated to performances by the likes
of Malkit Singh, Sardool Sikander, Ashok Mastie, Pammi Bai, Sarabjeet
Cheema and Hardev Mahinangal. The event will be hosted by television
anchor and actor Paramjit.
The channel has been associated with Punjabi music events in the
past, like Aaja Nach Le, Highway Hungama, Bhatinda
Blast, Chak De Phatte, Dhol Beat.
In addition, the channel has announced that Punjabi folk singer
Dolly Guleria is the Apna Star of the fortnight 1-15 April.
Guleria will feature on a variety of shows on the channel like Caught
on Camera, Dil Diyan Galan and Popularly Yours.
Her latest songs along with her past hits will also be featured
on the channel during this period.
The daughter of the artiste Surinder Kaur, Guleria's popularity
spans people of all ages and her fame has transcended the borders
of India and has made her a favourite with lovers of Punjabi folk
music all over the world in countries such as the UK, Holland, Canada,
the US, the Middle East and Pakistan.
Guleria sings for Doordarshan and All India Radio. She has also
contributed her voice as a playback singer in Punjabi Films such
as Rab Dian Rakhaan, Deson Pardes, Mein Maa Punjab
Di. Guleria, was trained in classical music by Ustad Abdul Rehman
Khan of the Patiala Gharana. She began her career by cutting cassettes
in Gurbani in Ragas and sang Rehraas Sahib the evening
paath in original Ragas. She also cut several cassettes of Punjabi
songs, some with her mother and some solo, including Shabad kirtan,
poetry of Bhai Veer Singh and various other writers.
