Star Movies continues with its weekend focus on blockbusters comprising
of a blend of different film genres.
This weekend the action kicks off with Disney's The Kid.
The film airs on 11 July at 9 pm. It stars Bruce Willis, Spencer
Breslin and Lily Tomlin. Willis plays a successful image consultant,
whose life grinds to a halt when he magically meets Rusty. Rusty
is Willis as an 8-year-old kid. Rusty reminds Russ of everything
he hated about himself, and Rusty has one word for a 40-year-old,
unmarried man without a dog: loser. Later on though Russ remembers
the childhood dreams he once had and rediscovers the grownup he
always wanted to be. Like The Sixth Sense this film showcases
Willis' strength at acting opposite a child.
On 12 July at the same the channel will air the NRI film Mr.
and Mrs. Iyer. It stars Rahul Bose, Konkoka Sen Sharma and Bhisham
Sahni. The film centers around Meenakshi Iyer and her nine-month
old son, Santanam. With them is a Muslim named, Raja Chowdhary,
a wildlife photographer who was introduced to her through a common
friend before boarding the bus. Since Meenakshi is traveling alone
with her infant, Raja is given the responsibility of looking after
her and everyone on the bus assumes them to be a couple. Troubles
brews when the bus is stopped by an angry mob of Hindu extremists.
For a change of mood Jean-Claude Van Damme flexes those Belgian
biceps in Sudden Death. This airs on July 13 at 6:30 pm.
Criminals led by Powers Boothe hold the US VP hostage at a Stanley
Cup finals ice hockey game in Pittsburgh's Civic Arena. Van Damme
plays Darren McCord, a tough fire marshal skilled in martial arts.
McCord, who happens to be attending the game with his two children.
He struggles to disconnect the ten bombs set to explode in the arena.
The science fiction genre takes center stage in Star Trek: First
Contact. This airs on 13 July at 9 pm and stars Patrick Stewart,
Jonathan Frakes and Brent Spiner.
