To mark the end of the Korean War 50 years ago, CNN International
will air a series of special reports from 28 July to 12 August.
The broadcaster's senior Asia correspondent Mike Chinoy, Seoul bureau
chief Sohn Jie-Ae and Biz Asia's anchor Andrew Stevens will
each file packages from the Peninsula, examining political, social
and economic issues resulting from the Korean War.
These reports will be featured on News Biz Today, Biz
Asia and Asia Tonight. In addition, the chat show Talk
Asia features two South Korean musical celebrities, Chung Myung-Whun
and Sumi Jo. They air on 27 July, 3 August at 8 am, 4 pm respectively,
28 July and 4 August at 8 am, 6 pm respectively.
Mike Chinoy, who has covered North Korea extensively and travelled
there over 10 times since 1989, looks at the legacy of the Korean
War including the divided families; and the different paths the
North and South have taken in the half century since the war. Chinoy
also reports on the impact of a planned redeployment of US troops
in South Korea.
Jie-Ae examines how South Korean president Ron Moo-hyun’s policies
are affecting the South-North relations; and looks at the life of
a North Korean defector in the South’s capitalist society. She also
charts the development of the South Korean economy over the past
fifty years; and takes a look at the booming consumer electronics
industry.
Stevens assesses the state of the South Korean economy and its
likely future course; as well challenges facing the country's tourism
and entertainment sectors.
The News Biz Today editions air from 28 July - 1 August
at 7 am (live) Asia Tonight: airs on the samde days live
at 4:30 pm and 7:30 pm. Meanwhile Biz Asia also airs on these
days at 5 pm (live) and 8 pm.
