Coming back to the film Erin Brockovich, the main protagonist
in the film, Erin, had a tough life with two divorces, three young
kids, no job and no luck. Working as a legal assistant, Erin, almost
single-handedly brought down a major power company accused of polluting
a city's water supply. A shady corporation that paid the neighbouring
residents a tiny fee for their silence; after contaminating the
local water supply and killing some residents; leaving others with
terrible diseases.
The principal photography for the film was done in several small
towns in California's Mojave Desert. These included Hinkley, where
the actual contamination took place; Boron, home to both the Borax
mines, where NASA frequently reroutes its shuttle landings; the
Barstow courthouse, where Judge LeRoy A. Simmons, who officiated
at the real pleading and discovery for the case, came out of retirement
to re-enact for the movie cameras his decision, which sent the case
further into the legal system.
