A Sherpa by birth, Jamling Tenzing Norgay followed his father’s
footsteps and made the dream come true in 1996. In 1953, his father
Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary became the first men known
to have reached the summit of Mount Everest. On the 50th anniversary
of the expedition, Norgay shares with CNN’s viewers his feelings
towards his father and Mount Everest.
Talking about his father he said, "He's sort of a model of living
a simple life. Every time when I think of Everest, I think of my
father. When I think of my father, I think of Everest. And Everest
does mean a lot to our family.” Norgay also talks about his own
unique experience in reaching the summit of Mount Everest, his adventure
travel business and his future plans.
Norgay took over the adventure travel company when his father died,
and he reveals to CNN what he enjoys about the business. “I am in
the adventure travel business and I get to take people from different
parts of the world to my part of the world and to share with them
our experience and to share with them first-hand about our culture”.
When asked about his future plans, the mountaineer says, “To take
care of my family at this point. I just want to spend more time
now to clean up the environment and to help, to support the Sherpas
and people in the Himalayas as much as possible.”
