NGC to celebrate a century of aviation with 'FTL-100'

National Geographic Channel will celebrate 100 years of aviation with FLT-100.

The infotainment channel has planned high flying programme comprising the next generation fighter jets, spy-planes airing on 17 December, 8-11pm

First in the line is a programme, Battle of X-Planes 1&2 at 8:00 pm. The program that gives a unique inside perspective on every phase of competition, from design and assembly to the thrilling test flights follows the trials and tribulations of this neck-and-neck design war between two aviation giants Lockheed Martin and Boeing. They compete to build the next generation fighter jet and win the largest US military contract ever awarded, estimated at two hundred billion dollars.For over five years, with unprecedented access from the Pentagon.

Greatest Flight, airing on 10:00 pm , has an American and an Australian retrace the historic route flown from England to Australia in 1919 in a Vickers Vimy biplane.

The aviation day will be concluded with special programme Spies that fly at 11:00 pm. The programme unravels the mystery of the 50-foot wingspan plane- Predator. During the air war in Afghanistan, the plane flew high, by remote control, over Taliban positions, enabling United States military commanders to direct lethal fire with pinpoint accuracy.

In the wake of its success, the US military is developing an incredible range of "smart" robotics planes, from tiny pocket-sized flyers to soaring jets that roam halfway around the world. During the programme Nova will presents the latest hot designs, including recently released footage from the Pentagon, and reveals some newly classified chapters from the exciting history of airborne spying.
