The next edition of Fast Track, BBC World's weekly global
round-up of travel news for the business and leisure sectors, will
focus on the issue of the impact of the recent tightening of entry
requirements to the US as well as on the impact of SARS on Asian
tourist destinations.
The show that features reports from around the world, interviews
with the industry's leading players, analysis of current trends
in travel and tips for people on the go, will be presented by Akhtar
Khan.
The Fast Track team will speak to tourism industry representatives.
The views expressed on the show indicate that the US is high on
the list of destinations for many of the world's travellers - but
for some people, the welcome isn't quite as warm as it used to be
- and that's causing concern in the industry. The programme visits
New York City to ask why. A new survey by market researchers Mintel
suggests that by 2015, the UK will have overtaken the USA in the
number of people travelling overseas.
The BBC World programme will also examine the impact of SARS on
the holiday scene. As Thailand works to increase visitor numbers
in the wake of SARS, a range of designer properties and hotels are
being built in Bangkok. The developments are appealing to more affluent,
upmarket visitors as Fast Track finds out how the holiday industry
is evolving.
There is also a rare look behind the scenes at Amsterdam's Schiphol
airport, where 3.5 million passengers per month are benefiting from
the world's most advanced baggage handling system.
