This weekend on BBC World's Great Britons series, Mo Mowlam
presents the story of former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill's
life. A case will be made as to why Churchill deserves to be voted
the Greatest Briton in the international poll being conducted by
the broadcaster.
The show airs on 2 August at 7:40 pm with a repeat on 3 August
at 2:40 pm and 11:40 pm.
Churchill found the destiny he had marked out for himself as Prime
Minister from 1940 to 1945. His colleagues admired his courage and
vision, but were exasperated by his irregular working habits. In
fact HBO last year made a film The Gathering Storm that dwelt
on Churchill's life. Programme presenter Mowlam was a member of
the UK government and Tony Blair's Cabinet until the general election
of June 2001. She has been Secretary of State for Northern Ireland
and later Minister for the Cabinet Office and Chancellor of the
Duchy of Lancaster.
