After scratching around with its Taking Guard and Follow
Through shows for the recently concluded World Cup, ESS has
realised that cricket coverage is what the Indian viewer would be
interested in.
Come 11 April Star Sports will air The TVS Cup involving
India, South Africa and hosts Bangladesh. The Indians will be without
mainstays Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Javagal Srinath as well
as veteran leggie Anil Kumble. This is not surprising as the guys
need a substantial break after their decent performance in South
Africa. This gives Ajit Agarkar, Parthiv Patel who sat on the bench
in South Africa a chance to prove themselves.
Newcomers in India’s side include Aavishkar Salvi, Gautam Gambhir,
Amit Mishra and Abhijit Kale. They all caught the eye of the selectors
following their impressive performances on India ‘A’s West Indies
tour. Opener Gambhir has proved to be one of Delhi’s most valuable
assets in the recent past, while leg spinner Amit Mishra has been
an integral part of the Haryana Ranji side. Speedster Aavishkar
Salvi and batsman Abhijit Kale are the promising cricketers from
Mumbai and Maharashtra respectively.
After a disastrous performance at home courtesy Duckworth Lewis
the South African's will be looking at this triangular as an ideal
launch pad for their new combination. They have a new captain Graeme
Smith who took over after Shaun Pollock was given the boot. Bangladesh
are on a losing streak having failed to win a single World Cup match
in a draw that included Canada and Kenya.
The first session for the matches starts at 1:30 pm and the second
one at 5:45 pm. The schedule on Star Sports is as follows
