DD Metro to air series on Sri Ramakrishna

(Posted on 3 June 2002 12:50 pm)

Doordarshan Metro will telacast a ten part weekday series on Sri Ramakrishna, written and presented by Rajiv Mehrotra.

Titled The Great Swan, the series will dwell on the life and philosophy of the seer Sri Ramakrishna and will portray in detail the uniqueness found in many of his sadhanas and spiritual practices. The programme traces both the internal evolution of Sri Ramakrishna and the significant events that occured in his life right from his immaculate conception, practices, his marriage, the coming of his disciples led by Swami Vivekananda and finally his death from cancer, says a press release.

The presentation by Mehrotra, a well known TV personality, will be juxtaposed with biographical sequences performed by a traditional jatra group from Bengal and shots of some of the sites and monuments where Ramakrishna's life was lived and documented.

The Great Swan airs from Monday to Friday at 9:30 pm on DD Metro.
