CNN to air specials on 'Truth Tigers' and Sir Paul McCartney

(Posted on 7 June 2002 8:30 pm)

CNN's show Insight will deal with a documentary on “Truth Tigers” on Saturday at 5 pm.

The short documentary follows the journey of camera crews recording the exploits of the Tamil Tigers (LTTE) of Sri Lanka. Australian Broadcasting Corporation's Mark Corcoran meets the cameramen and women who routinely put their lives on the line, recording the pitch battles between the Tigers and the government troops. Although these journalists call themselves Truth Tigers their stock in trade is propaganda - to raise funds from Tamils living abroad for the 19-year guerilla war independent homeland, says CNN.

Over the past decade the 120 member Truth Tiger unit has lost 51 camera operators and more than 100 seriously wounded. The documentary shows their exploits in the field and takes you to their sophisticated video facility where their work is edited and distributed throughout the world.

Insight is hosted by Jonathan Mann delves behind the headlines with incisive, investigative reports focusing on a single issue international news story, often followed by detailed discussion or interviews with experts and analysts to shed further light on the topics.

CNN has also lined up a treat for fans of one of the remaining Beatles, Sir Paul McCartney. The Music Room will feature the singer songwriter. The show airs tonight at 7 pm with repeats tomorrow at 11 am and Sunday at 7 pm. This edition of The Music Room delves into McCartney's musical efforts after the Beatles break-up, with the group Wings. McCartney himself reflects on his most recent tour, which sold out venues all over North America. His latest album is called Driving Rain.

The programme also shows how British punk icons The Sex Pistols are making serious movement on the charts through a re-issue of their once-banned album "God Save the Queen."
