HBO is trying a novel tack in August with movies adapted
from TV series.
The films, targeted at family audiences will air every Wednesday
at 9:30 pm. Based on the popular 1970s television show,
the polyester-clad Bradys are back on the big screen, still
deeply entrenched in the styles and mores of the 70s in
the comedy A Very Brady Sequel. The film airs on
7 August and stars Tim Matheson and Shelley Long.
Blue Brothers 2000 on 14 August is based on a role
made popular by the famed Saturday Night Live skit.
One half of the legendary Blues Brothers goes about putting
the band back together again in this musical comedy. There
are car chases, semi-criminal acts and set-piece musical
numbers. The film stars Dan Aykroyd and John Goodman of
Monsters Inc. fame and has cameos from blues music legends
including BB King, James Brown, Eric Clapton and Dr John.
On 21 August, catch the updated version of the classic television
sitcom Leave It To Beaver. The eight-year-old miscreant
of the popular 1950s television show makes the transition
to the big screen, along with the too-perfect big brother,
sage dad and cookie-baking mother, still trying his best
to stay out of trouble, while finding a thousand ways to
mess up despite his best intentions.
Inspired by the original series from the 1920s and 1930s,
the kids of He-man Woman Haters Club are back in
this modern take on the favourite comedy shorts and this
time are out to sabotage the budding romance of their club’s
most promising member in The Little Rascals on 28
August.
