Star World looking to hook viewers with 'Becker' and Mutant X

(26 July 2002 5:30pm)

Star World has announced the launch of a new comedy 'Becker' starring Ted Danson. The show will air every Monday at 7 and 10:30 pm from 5 August.

Becker is a dedicated, outspoken and talented doctor with a gruff exterior. He is not good at building up personal relationships, preferring to dedicate his energy towards his medical practice in the Bronx, New York, where he always goes the extra mile to help those in need.

He is dissatisfied with modern society and often airs his views at the local diner where Reggie (Terry Farrell), the woman who inherited the place, takes his rants in her stride. Another character in the show, Jake, played by Alex Desert who is the blind proprietor of the local newsstand, is used to John and does his best to explain the Becker phenomenon to others. Danson received a Golden Globe nomination for his role.

For those who count themselves as Danson fans, the fourth season of the sitcom 'Cheers' featuring him is currently running Mondays to Fridays at 4 pm on the channel.

Star World is also set to unleash action with the weekly 'Mutant X' that premieres on 17 August at 6:30 pm and 10 pm and will air every subsequent Saturday. Creation of Richard Donner, the director of 'Lethal Weapon', Mutant X is a sleek, fast-paced new age series, exploring the world of genetic engineering. The show chronicles the adventures of Mutant X, a team of human mutants possessing extraordinary powers as a result of genetic engineering. Like hundreds of other unsuspecting subjects, these new mutants were altered in secret experiments conducted in a covert government project. Realising that events have spun out of control, the organization that created them is now hunting them down in an urgent "product recall." Mutant X's mission is to seek out their fellow new mutants to help them come to terms with their astonishing abilities and protect them from their creators.

The show stars John Shea, Victoria Pratt, Victor Webster and Lauren Lee Smith.
