The
National Geographic series Chasing Time will visit
Mumbai shortly.
The series is based on the hip weekly magazine about what's
happening in London, New York, Los Angeles and other cities.
Each episode sees two contestants being dropped off in a
different city and challenged to find or visit a number
of things or places off the beaten track. Winners get a
weekend stay in the city's finest hotels; losers get sent
home on the next plane out.
On 22 July at 9:30 pm, Philip and Karen Giles chase time
in Mumbai unprepared for the crowds, pollution and friendliness
of the people. Watch them join the early morning revellers
at a Hasya Yoga laughter club. Then they go in search of
the goddess Mumba, examine Chor Bazaar and relax at the
little watery haven established by Lord Ram. They spend
time scrubbing in the company of the dhobiwallahs at the
huge public laundry and meet a Bollywood film star and join
in the celebrations at a Hindu wedding.
On 24 July at 9:30 pm, the excitement shifts to Rome, where
a South African couple visit the ancient and modern parts
of the Eternal City in an attempt to complete eight challenges
in twelve hours. First, they have to navigate their way
around some of the city's best known - and lesser known
- sites, where they discover the skeletons of 4,000 Capuchin
monks in the 17th century church of Santa Maria della Concezione.
The scene then shifts to Barcelona on 25 July, where an
Australian couple makes their first trip to Spain. If they
want to stay more than 24 hours, the couple needs to complete
eight tasks, which include - racing around some of the city's
most famous sites and buildings designed by the Catalan
architect Antoni Gaudi - including the Sagrada Familia church
and Parc Guell as well as the legendary Els Quatre Gats
bar.
