(Posted on 2 July 2002 2:40 pm)

As with English movie channels that are vying for audience attention on weekends, AXN is also coming out with its own selection of action thrillers to lure the viewer on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Fourth Floor starring Juliette Lewis and William Hurt, will feature on 13 July at the same time - a movie about an independent young woman who gets caught in a bizarre twist of events when she moves to a new apartment inherited from her aunt. Horrifying and chilling incidents make her realise that her new neighbours are the ones responsible for her aunt's death and are gunning for her life.

The Rendering on 20 July at 9 pm stars Shannon Doherty, Peter Outerbridge, and John Brennen and has Shannon Doherty as Sarah Reynolds who has the gift of drawing; a gift that she uses to put a deranged stalker behind bars. And years later when this very same man controls the fate of her jailed husband she has no choice but to help get this man free. She even indulges his fantasies of having a relationship with her.

The Saturday weekend blast ends with The Next Karate Kid on 27 July, a touching story about an enigmatic karate teacher Miyagi who helps a bitter and confused young girl recognise and realise the goodness within her. Stars Pat Morita, Hilary Swank, Chris Conrad, and Michael Ironside.

Hardcore action follows on the channel on Sundays with the all time hit Die Hard starring Bruce Willis on 7 July. Deep Impact on 14 July at 9 pm is about a 14 year-old who discovers a monster comet on a collision course with Earth. Twister on 21 July, starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton, is one of Mother Nature's most destructive forces, but men will lay their lives on the line to follow its destructive path across the country.
