AXN's 'The Amazing Race' reaches the finish line

(Posted on 23 January 2002 8:45 pm)

Action-adventure channel AXN concludes The Amazing Race this month. After the completion of 10 episodes only three teams remain in the show which gives the reality concept a new twist. The teams race to the final pit stop in New York City on 30 January from 9-10 pm.

The Amazing Race started with 11 teams of divergent backgrounds. The members of each team had pre-existing relationships. They raced around the world from one destination to another to win the grand prize of one million dollars. The couples visited many countries including Italy, France, Africa, India, Thailand, China and America. The last team to reach the 'pit stop' at the end of each episode was eliminated from the race.

The three teams consist of lawyers, separated parents and a gay couple. In India, the experience was unique as the visitors got a taste of the culture. They encountered bumpy roads, taxi drivers anxious to make a quick buck, cows and goats blocking the traffic and trying to survive in the famously overcrowded trains. A highlight was trying to find clues in the sacred Temple of Rats in Deshnoke, Bikaner.

Speaking on the program initiative, AXN Managing Director Todd Miller said: "The Amazing Race has lived up to its promise of being the most thrilling and entertaining of all shows in the reality TV genre shown so far. Shooting the show against such huge backdrops and varied cultures was a challenge and one that was a thoroughly enjoyable one. AXN promises to continue with its successful and popular programming formula, giving viewers region-wide more opportunities to get the buzz from the channel."

As reported earlier by indiatelevision.com, AXN will continue focussing on the reality genre in the coming months with shows like Fear Factor, Scariest Places on Earth, World's Most Shocking Moments, Caught on Tape and When Fun Turns to Fear.
