AXN launches spate of reality shows

(Posted on 3 January 2002 1:30 pm)

Continuing its plank of unique action adventure, AXN is pumping in more adrenaline into the channel with a handful of reality shows taking off in January 2002.

The Saturday Reality Special shows will commence on Saturday, 5 January, bringing viewers some never-before-seen shows from foreign shores, an official release states. If drawing room dramas and Bollywood blockbusters are not your scene, the two-episode show Close Call: Cheating Death on 5 and 12 January at 8 pm could be just what the doctor ordered. Close Calls showcases some of the world's exciting videos with heart-stopping footage of just how close some people get to being severely injured or even killed, not once, but countless times.

There's David McCallum who survives a bungee jump fall on his birthday when his bungee cord fails him, and a young girl who after being flung out of a Ferris wheel is thrown against the wheel wires breaking both her arms, but nevertheless manages to hang on until rescued. Hosted by Robert Urich and Peter Coyote, the adrenaline rush of Close Calls will amaze and horrify viewers with the real life trauma of being able to look death in the eye and walking away to tell the tale.

On 19 January, 8:00 pm, The Price of Fame brings some of the world's famous celebrities in front of a candid camera, exposing their eccentricities and tempers at the most unexpected moments. Caught on tape by the paparazzi or by news cameras, top stars are caught off guard displaying their worst behaviour. Witness legendary crooner Frank Sinatra going ballistic when he is videurn victim with a complete facial bandage, assaulting a photographer at an antique dootaped outside a Beverly Hills restaurant; watch international music and film star Bjork physically attack a Thai news reporter welcoming her to Bangkok; view Michael Jackson disguised as a bll show.

The last Saturday of the month will showcase incredible moments in ordinary lives on World's Most Shocking Moments Caught on Tape at 8:00 pm, bringing some more edge of the seat entertainment, as the camera captures some incredibly unbelievable moments.
