MTV
India has announced that the network's unique show Be
Heard: An MTV Global Discussion With Colin Powell will
air on 28 February at 8 pm.
The
one hour special will see the US Secretary of State Colin
Powell answer questions from Indian youth and their counterparts
around the world. The show will have repeats on 1 March
at 10:30 pm and 3 March at 10:00 am.
The
forum was taped simultaneously in Washington, D.C. and at
MTV studios around the world on 14 February 2002. International
studio audiences gathered at respective MTV locations around
the world where local MTV news correspondents and VJs facilitated
the session via satellite with Powell. Whacky MTV VJ Cyrus
Broacha moderated the Indian segment in New Delhi.
The forum was available globally to 164 territories with
MTV channels reaching 374.7 million households. President,
MTV Group and chairman, Interactive Music Judy McGrath had
said earlier that the venture was part of the channel's
post-September 11 programming and a unique way for the channel
to extend its brand identity with youth.
Subjects
that came up for discussion and debate included the US's
negative image abroad, terrorism, military dictatorships,
condom use and the Catholic Church, access to HIV/AIDS drugs,
and whether or not Secretary Powell thinks he's black
enough. Indians asked questions pertaining to the sensitive
Jammu and Kashmir issue.
