interactive show Harsha Online on 30 December at 9 pm on
Star Sports.
Widely regarded as New Zealand’s best wicket keeper in modern times,
Smith backed his performances with the gloves with a number of valuable
innings. His career spanned more than a decade - from 1980-81 to
1991-92 - and through most of the 1980s, he played a key role in
New Zealand’s success.
Ian Smith has scored 1,815 runs in 63 tests at an average of 25.56
with 2 centuries. In the shorter version of the game, Smith has
scored 1,055 runs in 98 games at an average of 17.29. He has accounted
for 176 victims in test cricket and has claimed 86 opposition batsmen
in the shorter version of the game.
Since retiring from Test cricket in 1992 he has fashioned a career
as a television commentator, covering both cricket and rugby.
