Channel [V] is launching a new show called Panga in January
2003. Billed as an adventurous, fun and youthful programme aimed
at connecting with youth, the show will be set against the backdrop
of college campuses as well as other youth-centric hangouts. The
show will provide 'wacky' challenges such as drinking a spicy bottle
of ketchup.
Channel [V] will also aim to provide relief entertainment from
excessive cricket watching during the forthcoming World Cup 2003.
The channel is working on a strategy wherein there won't be any
shift from music based programming and its regular shows. The reasoning
is based on the premise that the number of cricket matches involving
India will be less and the fact that youth viewers will seek a break
from cricket.
Channel [V] will create a special song called Hum with the
Indi-pop band Euphoria and noted Indi-pop singer Mehnaaz. This song
is billed as Channel [V]'s tribute to the Indian cricket team and
will be an addition to the new vignettes and existing programmes
revolving around the theme of cricket.
The channel's senior manager and head of music programming Sunil
Chainani claims: "We already have highly popular programmes
such as Commentary Box and Catch Phrases. In the forthcoming
editions of Commentary Box, a team of Channel [V] VJs will
travel around the country and seek cricket-related views and opinions
from music, film celebrities and other eminent personalities."
Catch Phrases, based on cricket terminology, focuses on
the way in which the Indian youth have incorporated cricket 'lingo'
in everyday conversation. In fact, the channel officials claim that
some of the phrases have already become 'generic' in their use.
