Business channel CNBC India, is launching the second in its Industry Vector series, which will focus on the power sector.

Policy makers and opinion leaders from both the government and private sector will be participating and discussing issues related to the power industry, a company release says. Initiated by a panel of speakers comprising RV Shahi, power secretary, government of India, Ajay Maken, power minister Delhi, RP Singh, Power Grid Corporation, Firdose Vandrevala, equity managing director, Tata Power and Harry Dhaul, from Independent Power Producers Association of India, this session will be held on 26 August 2002 at the Taj Mansingh Hotel, New Delhi.

The Industry Vector on the power sector has been carefully planned taking into consideration the problems like state electricity boards not performing well, unbundling of transmission, distribution and generation, reforms in most Indian states, increase in residential tariffs. The Industry Vector on power will focus on issues of privatization, FDI in the power sector, power subsidy for agriculture, transmission & distribution losses, power theft, operational efficiencies, commercial viability, among other critical issues. Current developments such as project based financing that includes corporatization of SEB's and on controversial ground issues related to 100% metering versus social considerations, use of budgetary outlays, the Accelerated Power Development Reform Programme would be some additional concerns discussed in depth.

This powerful & interactive discussion would focus on tangible points of action in order to conclude with a definitive direction for the power sector in India, the release concludes.
