MUMBAI: Hallmark channel has announced a diverse array of programmes for next month.

On 1 September at 9 pm, Paperback Hero takes centrestage on the channel. The film stars Hugh Jackman who played Wolverine in X-Men. He plays a driver of a road train across the Australian outback. To pass time he writes a novel, a mushy romance set against the background of World War I. Anxious to maintain his he-man image, Jack submits the novel to a Sydney publisher under the pseudonym of Ruby Vale, a close friend. Complications arise when a publishing representative shows up.

Lovers of serials, which do not descend into soap opera mush, can check out Early Edition. The show starts 2 September and airs Monday- Friday at 8 pm. The main protagonist played by Kyle Chandler gets the newspaper every day one day in advance. Therefore, he can prevent bad news form occurring within the span of 24 hours. Chandler won a Saturn award for his role.

A different take on the classic of the Swiss Family Robinson, Stranded stars Liam Cunningham and shot in Thailand and airs on 8 and 9 September at 9 pm. My Life as a fairy tale - Hans Christian Anderson airs in two parts on 22 and 23 September. More innovation on the classic fairy tales comes in the form of Jack and The Beanstalk: The Real Story. Starring Mathew Modine and Vanessa Redgrave the film airs on 24 and 25 September at 9 pm. It has a twist in that the beanstalk story is no legend, but an actual historical event whose details have been muddied and perverted over the past four centuries. It also deals with two interesting issues which are the cloning of the goose to provide an endless supply of gold and the importance of the greening of the environment and its beneficial effect on the population.
