This week’s special edition of CNN’s Inside Asia
looks at Bangladesh and the social and economic challenges
facing one of the world’s poorest nations as it struggles
to find its place in the 21st century.
In a chilling examination of domestic violence in Bangladesh,
reporter Kasra Naji meets with several victims of acid attacks
and looks at why these brutal incidents continue to be perpetrated
against the nation’s young women.
Naji also reports on the annual flood problem in the country
and reports on what plans the government is taking to tackle
the disaster.
Looking to the future, Inside Asia also reports on
the nation’s potential to utilise its natural resources
for the benefits of all its people. Bangladesh has huge
resources of natural gas and the country could raise living
standards by exporting the gas to nearby India, but this
has become a major political issue. Naji takes a look at
why and reports on the concerns under discussion.
Finally, Naji looks at solar energy in Bangladesh. Eighty-percent
of Bangladeshi's have no access to electricity, and access
to more solar energy could dramatically change this country
of 130-million people.
Hosted by Veronica Pedrosa, Inside Asia is a half-hour current
affairs program produced at CNN’s Asian headquarters in

inside look at economic, social and cultural affairs and
trends in the Asia Pacific region.
