The
vivacious first lady of Indian pop will grace BBC World
on 10 April.
Usha Uthup, who with her trademark sari and bindi won hearts
with her throaty
renditions will come Face To Face with her fans on Wednesday
at 10 pm. Find out what makes this unusual pop star tick,
and the secret behind her ability to sing in diverse languages.
Usha, who has not trained formally in music, talks to Karan
Thapar about her accidental entry into a singing career
and the kind of hard work that goes into perfecting her
pronunciations in each language. She was among the first
to start singing in nightclubs in the late 1960s and in
the interview, shares her experience of how it changed perception
of people.
The ITV produced talk show is currently featuring personalities
from the field of arts from 3 April, according to a press
release. The Usha Uthup interview will be repeated on 14
April at 1 pm and 10 pm.
