Fuelled
by the enthusiastic response to its School Quiz show last
year, the ESPN School Quiz 2002 takes off from today.
The show will be aired Mondays to Fridays at 5:30 pm, with
repeats at 11:30 pm.
The
show, hosted by Harsha Bhogle, sees teams from 108 schools
putting their knowledge about sports to the test. Over 2000
teams from 17 cities went through a stringent selection
procedure before the selected few were chosen to participate.
Bhilai, Bhopal, Darjeeling, Nasik, Shimla and Surat have
been represented for the first time. The channel also conducted
on-ground quizzes in six cities.
27 top teams from each of the four zones - North, South,
East and West - were selected for the final phase.
The
All India winner of the School Quiz 2002 will receive a
cash award of Rs. 500,000 which is to be used for developing
sports facilities at the school. In addition, ESPN Star
Sports will give the team members, along with their teacher,
a trip to any major international sporting event of their
choice from events featured on either ESPN or Star Sports.
