(Posted on 10 April 2002 6:45 pm)

Kids' channel Nickelodeon has announced that it will commemorate the tenth anniversary of the show Rugrats with a special episode titled Rugrats: All Growed Up. It aired on 10 April at 8 pm with repeats on Saturday and Sunday at 9 am.

Nickelodeon states that the show represents the channels aim of looking at the world from the point of view of a child. An official release informs

that since kicking off ten years ago, the show has become a phenomenon in America. It has been the top show on broadcast and cable in America for kids aged 2-11 for five years straight. It was also the highest rated kids show on cable in America for eight years in a row.

The All Growed Up episodes have the distinction of being the highest rated kids programme on American cable to date since their debut last July. Rugrats claims to be seen in over 150 countries.

The franchise with toys, CD ROMs, videos, books etc has proven popular with the channel's target audience. In addition, two movies based on the

series did well at the box office. Rugrats In Paris released last year has earned nearly $100 million worldwide. Last year, the show received a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame to honour the anniversary, the release states.

Tomorrow's special on the channel sees the babies going through an imaginary time asheen. They emerge ten years later as pre-teens. Whether the channel succeeds in making a dent in India and Asia remains to be seen.
