Acting bug hits VJdom!

They are paid for talking --- NONSTOP!

Cyrus Sahukar: Taking on the Baazigar's of Business

They have the gift of the gab, they can think on their feet and they have great comic timing! They are the VJs who have revolutionized the concept of 'anchoring' on the telly.

More and more of these popular VJs have moved from the profession and are now appearing in soaps and shows.

It's been a long journey from being VJs to being actors --- from playing themselves, to playing a fictional character on screen. Be it Cyrus Sahukar, Ranbir, Gaurav Kapoor, Shruti Seth, Mini Mathur, Malaika Arora, Keith, Yudi or Purab…..the list is endless!

Acting is another way to have fun:Shruti

How was the transition like? Is it really a transition or a move…lets ask a few of our favourite VJs.

"It was more like a stepping stone, for the ultimate goal of becoming an actor --- if one is interested in acting then television is a medium that one has to venture into," says Yudi, who will soon be appearing in a serial.

Perhaps being a VJ helps in this transition from one format to the other. When one is spontaneous in front of the camera, it makes one's life easier while emoting on screen. It is not surprising then that most of these VJs are part of popular comedies or are part of shows that let them make wise cracks --- where they can be themselves!

Shruti Seth feels that she has been lucky to get roles that suit her. "I have got roles that are so like me that I don't have to really act, all the characters that I play, are very close to me," says Shruti, who seems to get a great kick from playing the bubbly teenager in Star Plus' Shararat.

'Cyrus the Virus' taking his acting skills seriously?

On a more serious note, television seems to be a natural choice for these VJ's, because it has a wider reach --- VJs have a niche target audience, they cater to a particular class of people, while the telly cuts across all sections of the

Perhaps this is one way to diversify as well, models tend to move on to movies or serials and so do VJs

Cyrus Sahukar, who will soon host Business Baazigar on Zee says, "I took up Business Baazigar because I did not want to stagnate and if there is an opportunity to do something more, then why not."

Shruti agrees, "As long as I get to do different things at the same time, I am cool with it!" she says.

Even Cyrus Broacha, arguably the man who made VJing a profession in its own right is hosting a cricket based show on NDTV. We could not contact him, but surely, he too was looking for a change!

Amidst the plethora of melodramatic saas-bahu sagas, their feel good histrionics on the telly are like a breath of fresh air for the viewers.
