DreamWorks to launch Fight Sports and Kids+ channels

MUMBAI: DreamWorks Channel, a Southeast Asian pay television network that is owned and operated by DreamWorks Animation International TV, a subsidiary of NBCUniversal, which is a division of Comcast, has set the ball rolling to launch two new channels - Fight Sports and Kids+ Asia. It has started the global satellite test transmission service from Asiasat7 satellite on 105.5 degree east.

DreamWorks partnered with Technicolor in 2008 to open DreamWorks Dedicated Unit, Technicolor India (DDU) in Bangalore, India. Its goal was was to create a fully-functioning unit of DreamWorks in India, with the ambitious goal of creating work at the same scope and quality level as the American DreamWorks, and do so seamlessly, using the same high-end production process.

But, in 2016, as per reports, an announcement was made to the studio’s 300+ employees by general manager Damien de Froberville that the company could cease operations in India.

The new channels that the company is launching will be free-to-air (FTA) on SD format with the system Mpeg4/Dvb s2(QPSK).

DreamWorks is now available in eight languages across 11 countries in Asia either as a full channel or, in three cases, as a branded block. Recently the channel launched in the Maldive, and in June it was introduced to audiences in Hong Kong through a carriage deal with iCable. As per the reports, it is also set to launch three new original kids shows with Netflix in 2019 and 2020.

Moreover, the company has also announced the Asia premiere of the animated television series The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle to air in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan, South Korea, Myanmar and the Philippines.
