CNN International gears up for US Presidential elections

MUMBAI: CNN International will bring full coverage of the Iowa Caucuses today, drawing from US resources to bring the full picture of the Presidential Elections to international audiences throughout 2012.

CNN International together with will explore the candidates and the issues, and look at the election’s possible impact on the world. CNN’s commentators will walk audiences through the intricate processes of an American Presidential race explaining how the key issues and candidates are playing among the nation’s voters.

CNN International senior VP Mike McCarthy said, “CNN International will tap into the vast expertise of our anchors, reporters and analysts to give a full and impartial picture of the Presidential race. In an election year where international events, the economy and jobs are of great concern in the US and beyond, we will give our international audiences unrivalled coverage of what remains an event of huge global significance.”

Coverage of the event will begin at 12 midnight IST on 4 January, with correspondent Hala Gorani hosting a special edition of the International Desk. Gorani will be checking in live with CNN’s reporters on the campaign trail in Iowa, monitoring the candidates’ final moves and taking the temperature of the voters on the big day.

CNN will unveil the Election Center studio for the Iowa Caucuses, complete with new technology and data visualisation capabilities. The network will also utilise dual-screen technology to examine demographics and track how votes are being cast via CNN’s own entrance polls. Users will also be able to track results by county as they come in at the CNN Election Center.

In addition, the network will aggregate social media conversations using the Twitter hash-tag #CNNElection, and display users’ sentiments about candidates and issues in real time. Elsewhere, will host real-time reports from the network’s political correspondents and anchors on the ground in Iowa.
