Disney-ABC Intl Television offers 11 new shows for the global market

MUMBAI: Disney-ABC International Television has launched to the international TV market 23 new and returning scripted series for the 2007-2008 season at its Seventh Annual International Upfronts event.

The shows include Grey‘s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Lost, October Road, Brothers And Sisters and Criminal Minds.

The event was held at the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California to showcase this slate in advance of the Los Angeles Screenings market. It was attended by buyers and TV executives from around the world.

Also present for the event were stars like Sally Field and Rob Lowe Brothers And Sisters, Marcia Cross and Eva Longoria Desperate Housewives, Patrick Dempsey Grey‘s Anatomy, Peter Krause and Donald Sutherland Dirty Sexy Money.disney-ABC Worldwide Television president Laurie Younger says, "As the strong performance of US series on international television continues, we are pleased to launch a promising new slate of shows, building on a record year for our our content, and our business."

The firm has also US broadcaster ABC‘s show Ugly Betty to 130 territories worldwide. Younger said, "We‘re delighted to be announcing the international success of Ugly Betty - at the heart of Ugly Betty is a story, and a heroine, which both appeal universally across different cultures. We look forward to working with clients to build on the early success of the show - with more international launches to come later this year."

Viewers in territories from New Zealand to Norway, and Morocco to Malaysia will watch the show. It is adapted from the telenovela Yo Soy Betty La Fea. In India Sony had adapted it as Jassi Jaisi Koin Nahin.

One of the new shows that has been launched for the international market is Dirty Sexy Money. The protagonist Nick George‘s whole life has been lived in the shadow of the Darling family, but as an adult he‘s leading the perfect life as an idealistic lawyer, until his father‘s suspicious death.

The absurdly wealthy Darlings of New York have asked him to take over his father‘s job as their personal lawyer, but the money that will allow him the freedom to be an altruistic do-gooder is only part of the picture. That same money pulls him into the dubious doings of the Darling clan. Power, privilege and family money are a volatile cocktail.

Private Practice is about new beginnings and old friends. Addison Forbes Montgomery is a renowned neonatal surgeon, respected by her friends and colleagues at Seattle Grace Hospital. Deciding she can no longer healthily co-exist with her ex-husband, McDreamy, and her ex-lover, McSteamy, Addison heads to Los Angeles for sunnier weather and happier possibilities.

Reunited with her once-married, newly divorced medical school friends, Naomi and Sam, Addison joins their chic private practice. The show tells the story of a woman unafraid of change and willing to begin a new life.
