MUMBAI: Fortinet, a provider of multi-threat security solutions,
today announced that CNBC-TV18 has purchased and deployed four FortiGate
enterprise security appliances to protect its bandwidth-intensive
network of broadcast television and news stations and online financial
news portal.
CNBC-TV18's rapid growth and expansion required the need to secure
more data, applications and users on its bandwidth-intensive network,
which routinely handles large amounts of video and voice traffic.
This, coupled with an increase in security incidents and a greater
demand for failover for online sites, prompted the media company
to search for a more scalable, comprehensive and higher performance
security solution.
After evaluating solutions from several vendors, CNBC-TV18 chose
Fortinet's FortiGate family of multi-threat security appliances.
Sify, a Fortinet solutions provider partner, helped the company
deploy its new security infrastructure which comprises two FortiGate-800
enterprise-class high performance security systems at CNBC-TV18's
Mumbai office and two FortiGate-400A systems at its Delhi office.
The FortiGate devices are also protecting 17 other bureaus of CNBC-TV18
in India and abroad, connecting to the Mumbai and Delhi offices
through either leased lines or VSAT.
"Traffic on our networks is typically very high, but we cannot
afford any downtime or even slow network performance because we
are in the business of delivering information in a timely manner.
Fortinet has helped us considerably by eliminating spam, viruses
and worms that can easily clog our networks and bring operations
to a stand-still," said CNBC-TV18 senior manager systems Rajesh
Sharma.
Since deploying Fortinet's FortiGate platforms, CNBC has been unaffected
by a security incident, such as a virus and worm outbreak. Additionally,
the MIS support team has noticed that the unified threat management
systems are significantly easier to administer and manage than the
point solutions they used previously.
Fortinet's market-leading FortiGate systems are ASIC-accelerated
security appliances that deliver real-time network protection through
the integration of a broad range of security functions -- including
firewall, virtual private networking (VPN), antivirus, intrusion
prevention (IPS), Web filtering, traffic shaping, and anti-spam.
All of Fortinet's FortiGate systems are ICSA-certified, easy to
manage and provide cost-effective network-level and content-level
protection at the network gateway and edge. The systems are kept
up to date automatically through Fortinet's FortiGuard Network,
which delivers continuous and automatic signature 'push' updates
that ensure protection against the latest viruses, worms, Trojans,
spyware, intrusions and other threats around the clock, and around
the world.
"Media companies have very high requirements for network uptime,
performance and protection. The availability of news and information
cannot be risked by a security breach. The selection of Fortinet
by CNBC-TV18, one of the world's most highly acclaimed media outlets,
is a significant endorsement of the capabilities of Fortinet and
our FortiGate products," said Fortinet Asia Pacific vice president
Hansen Chang.
