MUMBAI: Malayala Manorama has chosen Beehive Systems' real-time 3D graphics solution, Wasp'3D for its upcoming news channels. Beehive will provide seven Wasp'3D output engines (Sting On-Air Servers) and four designers (Drones) for Malayala Manorama's (MMTV) three regional language channels - one state-specific and others - city-specific, states an official release.

MMTV's requirement was a complete 3D on-air graphics solution as well as virtual set. For these requirements, they found Wasp'3D ideal because of the multiple core benefits provided by Wasp'3D at a reasonable cost. These core benefits include - real-time 3D, virtual set, chroma keying, 3D compositing, digital video effects and channel branding, Beehive says in an official release.

Beehive has completed knowledge transfer and training to the technical and creative staff of MMTV. The installation will be done in March 2006 while the channels are expected to go on-air in April 2006.

Talking about why MMTV preferred Wasp'3D, Malayala Manorama director George Jacob said, "The step from print to television is not just a strategic but also a historical decision for Malayala Manorama as we have completed more than hundred years in print. Hence, it was a matter of great deliberation when it came to choosing the technology for our online look and feel. We wanted a complete 3D solution rather than just a piece of it and found that only Wasp'3D met our requirement. Technical support was also an important factor and here again Beehive was the first choice because of its track record of providing prompt local support"

Commenting on the Malayala Manorama deal, Beehive Systems VP business development Ajay pal Singh said, "It is indeed a matter of great pride and pleasure for us that a highly respected as well as popular media group like Malayala Manorama chose Wasp'3D. We wish them all the best for their initiative to move to television and we are sure they will be hugely successful."
