MUMBAI: Germany's Presteigne Broadcast Hire has supplied the High Definition (HD) equipment and specialist crew for West Asian Games in Doha, Qatar. The systems used comprised Thomson LDK 6000 HD camera heads, and LinkHD wireless transmitters and receive stations.

Presteigne's systems transmitted HD pictures live from the Hamad Aquatics Centre for the duration of the event, with Al Jazeera TV and some additional Asian satellite TV channels taking feeds, states an official release.

The latest signal delay recorded for the LinkHD system is less than 50 milliseconds, which is just over one frame. These results confirm that the performance of the LinkHD will match the broadcasters' tough requirements for live sports broadcast.

Many broadcasters and production crews used the games in Qatar to test out new high definition equipment that they plan to use for the bigger sporting events of 2006. LinkHD was just one of the new HD technologies to be put through its paces at the sports centre, where the technical crews for the games were based. Presteigne were in Doha supplying a full HD de-rig facility for the aquatics events, supplying HD and down-converted SD feeds to the broadcasters on site, the release adds.
