| US digital video recording (DVR) firm TiVo has unleashed
TiVoToGo, a new feature which allows subscribers to watch television
shows wherever they want by pulling the shows from networked Series2
TiVo DVR onto the user's PC.
TiVoToGo will work for subscribers who own standalone Series2
TiVo DVRs, not for those who own DirecTV-TiVo satellite boxes. Also,
the technology will work with MS Windows XP or 2000 operating systems.
TiVo is planning a version for Macintosh computers now.
The recorded shows are transferred to PCs or laptops via a home
computer network. Users would have to download free desktop software
from the TiVo Web site (www.tivo.com) onto the computers. A media
access code and password is assigned to each user's account.
TiVo has plans to make TiVoToGo adaptable to portable media
gadgets also. The company is also working on the concept of making
video accessed anywhere via the internet.
