| NDS Group plc, a News Corporation company and a leading
provider of technology solutions for digital pay TV has announced
Korea Digital Media Center (KDMC) selected NDS to provide key technology
for its digital and interactive cable TV network.
NDS VideoGuard conditional access will provide the integral network
security for the pay-TV operations. In order to be OpenCable compliant,
KDMC also utilizes the NDS VideoGuard CableCard module in the set-top
box.
According to an official release, KDMC is NDC's third customer
in the Korea cable TV market.
KDMC, owned by the Taekwang Group, provides services to more than
30 system operators (SOs) across South Korea and reaches over 2
million subscribers. The subscribers are currently receiving an
analog service, however KDMC plans to transition to digital and
interactive broadcasting services for all subscribers.
NDS Asia Pacific vice president and general manager Sue Taylor
has been quoted in the company release as saying, "NDS has
invested significant resources and capital into developing a fully
OCAP compliant conditional access system with a CableCard module.
KDMC is now the third Korean MSO to select NDS technology, which
gives NDS the leading position in the Korean cable market. We look
forward to working together with KDMC to launch the digital operations,
and offer new digital and interactive services to Korean cable TV
viewers."
